Acquafresca closing prior account before opening new campaign

Mesa County Commissioner Steve Acquafresca hasn’t filed a campaign finance report in his bid for the Colorado House because he doesn’t have to, at least not yet.

That’s only because he’s still in the process of closing out his campaign finance account in the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office for his commissioner seat.

That account has about $1,400 in it, but because of campaign finance limits, he can’t transfer it into a new account for House District 54, a seat he’s hoping to win after it is vacated by Rep. Ray Scott, R-Grand Junction.

Scott is running against Democrat Claudette Konola for Senate District 7, a seat that Sen. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, is leaving to run for Mesa County sheriff.

Acquafresca said he plans to donate all the money in his commissioner account, some of which he collected seven years ago when he first ran for that office, to charity.

When that’s done, and he officially closes the account, Acquafresca plans to seek new donations for his House bid. Currently he has no opponent.
