Affidavit: Man taped girls using toilet

A Clifton man who was arrested Wednesday admitted he hid his cellphone in a bathroom to record a pair of girls as they used the toilet, according to an arrest affidavit.

Amilcar Garcia, 51, 3256 Cardenas Drive, Unit B, was arrested by Mesa County Sheriff’s Department deputies on suspicion of felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child and obscenity, and misdemeanor counts of child abuse and unlawful sexual contact.

Deputies responded to Garcia’s home Wednesday night after a 13-year-old girl said she was using the toilet when she noticed a cellphone hidden inside a floorboard heating vent in the bathroom, the affidavit said.

She said the phone belonged to Garcia and was in “recording mode” when she picked it up. A deputy found one video on the phone showing a young girl using the toilet, the affidavit said.

“I also observed Amilcar briefly on the video, and he appeared to be adjusting the camera angle so that it would observe the toilet,” the affidavit said.

Garcia told a deputy he was “sick.”

He is being held at the Mesa County Jail on $25,000 bond.
