Airplane runs off Eagle County Airport runway

DENVER — An investigation is underway after a private plane went off a runway at Eagle County Regional Airport.

The Denver Post reports ( ) the replica Spitfire aircraft crashed Sunday, damaging the nose cone and propeller. The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash, which closed the runway for about 45 minutes.

The airport is about 100 miles west of Denver.
