Albertsons’ Monopoly winner in Grand Junction
Doris Hinkle of Grand Junction could hardly believe it when she placed the final stamp for a $40,000 prize on her Albertsons Monopoly Collect and Win game board.
Nobody else could believe it either. Hinkle told her husband who thought she was joking, she said.
Hinkle, 71, has shopped at the Albertsons on 12th Street nearly everyday for the past 50 years. “This is my favorite store and I just love all of them,” she said, referring to the employees and cashiers who all know Doris by name.
Cashier Roger Searcy gave Hinkle her winning game pieces and said he couldn’t have been happier to see one of the regulars win.
“She’s been shopping here for years and we’re just so happy to have a winner here in Grand Junction,” said Rob Haynie, store director.
“Yay — money!” Hinkle said as she accepted an oversized check Friday morning in the lobby of the store. Shoppers enjoyed cake and ice cream at the presentation.
“Right now this means a lot to me because I want to help my daughter and grandson move to New Jersey,” she said of her plans for some of the money. The rest she’ll save, she added.
This is the second $40,000 winner in Colorado. The other was awarded in Pueblo. “Colorado has been very lucky this year,” Haynie said.
