Area unemployment ticks down, below 7 percent

The unemployment rate in Mesa County fell below the 7 percent threshold for the first time since 2009, with the announcement today that the local jobless rate for November was 6.9 percent.

That’s .1 percent below October’s 7 percent reading, and continues the downward trend for the year, which tallied a 9.6 percent unemployment rate in January of this year.

The local jobless rate has not been below 7 percent since January 2009, according to local labor statistics.

The number of people in the local labor workforce ticked up between October and November, according to the data, from 78,036 in October to 78,087 in November.
