Area unemployment rate falls to 7.9 percent

New state labor data released this morning shows that Mesa County’s unemployment rate fell to 7.9 percent.

That lags behind the state rate of 6.8 percent, and a bit behind the national unemployment rate of 7.6 percent.

Of the local labor force of 78,606, 72,148 people are employed, according to the numbers from the Colorado Department of Labor.

Last month, the local jobless rate hit its lowest point in more than four years, when it fell to 8.2 percent.
