Area businesswoman to lead Palisade chamber
Nearly two months after its previous administrator left, the Palisade Chamber of Commerce has a new executive director.
East Orchard Mesa resident Katherine Fernandez will take over the top job starting Monday, said Sue Woll, a chamber board member.
“Kathy had the most direct experience that we need for a chamber in terms of management experience and event planning and financial savvy,” Woll said. “She just had the most skills for the position. She really stood out.”
The chamber board interviewed about 15 people after the surprise resignation of Bayley Rogers, who had been on the job for about five months. Rogers had a falling out with the board when some members questioned her simultaneous work as a public relations and marketing specialist for Mosaic, a program that offers services for the developmentally disabled.
Fernandez has lived in Palisade and Grand Junction since 2000.
From 2000 to 2008, she co-owned Fernandez Vineyard & Orchard Management Inc. with her husband, Tony. She also worked other jobs during that period: office manager at Criterium Kupelian Engineers, 623 Chaco Court; office manager at Storage Tank Technology, 1048 Independent Ave.; and associate broker at Keller Williams, 715 Horizon Drive.
For the past two years, she worked as a skin-care consultant at Herberger’s Department Store in Mesa Mall, 2424 U.S. Highway 6&50.
Prior to coming to Colorado, Fernandez worked in various bookkeeping positions in and around Napa Valley in California. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Utah State University and graduated from real estate schools in Colorado, California and Wyoming.
