Arrest made after weeklong search

A 29-year-old Grand Junction man wanted by police on suspicion of drug possession was arrested Friday morning.

Robert Jonathan Morton, 322 Fairview Ave., was arrested in the 1200 block of Bookcliff Avenue after authorities learned he was at the address, Grand Junction Police Department Sgt. David Stassen said.

Police had been looking for Morton for a week, Stassen said.

In addition to the drug crimes alleged in the warrant, Morton was arrested Friday on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, criminal impersonation, tampering with evidence and contempt of court, according to an arrest affidavit.

Morton lied to authorities about who he was, although authorities had a photograph with his name on it, Stassen said.

When officers confronted Morton to arrest him, he took a glass pipe out of his pocket, threw it to the ground and stepped on it to break it, the affidavit said.

Methamphetamine residue was found inside the pipe, the affidavit said.
