Missing boy case possible parental abduction

The Fruita Police Department is investigating the possibility that a 2-year-old boy was abducted from the front yard of his father’s home by the boy’s biological mother.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin acknowledged parental abduction was one of several possibilities considered in the disappearance of Anthony Nocedal Jr., last seen in diapers in front of 533 Harrison Ave. The child’s father said he and the boy’s mother, Chelsea Leavitt, had been involved in a custody dispute. According to Nocedal, the current custody arrangement allows the mother to take the boy outside Colorado only with the father’s permission.

“I hope he’s OK,” said Anthony Nocedal, pacing and chain-smoking in front of his home as police and Mesa County Sheriff’s Department deputies wrapped up a search of the area immediately around the home at approximately 6 p.m.

Benjamin said authorities as of 6 p.m. had tried to contact Chelsea Leavitt on her cell phone, but calls were not answered. Leavitt lives in Las Vegas.

Authorities believe she may be driving a 2001 green 4-door Chevrolet Blazer, which has dents to the rear bumper. The vehicle has Nevada license plates, 107-VSD.

Benjamin said she may also be associated with a white Ford F-150 extended cab truck.
