Avalanche warning issued after close calls in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Avalanche Center issued a warning after at least seven people unintentionally triggered backcountry avalanches in Utah on Friday.

The center says dangerous avalanche conditions will continue through the weekend after recent snowfall overloaded a very weak snowpack.

It says the avalanche danger is especially high on steep, upper north- and east-facing slopes.

According to the center, several people narrowly escaped injury after triggering backcountry avalanches on Friday.
