Baby dies at hospital in Denver

A Grand Junction infant, who was hospitalized in Denver for 16 days with an unspecified medical problem, died earlier this month, authorities said.

The Grand Junction Police Department said Monday that it continues to investigate the death of Lucius Lee Mitchell, who died June 12 at Children’s Hospital in Denver.

Police spokeswoman Kate Porras described the boy as an infant but did not specify his age.

Police responded to a medical call involving Lucius the afternoon of May 27 in the 2900 block of Bunting Avenue, Porras said. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital in Denver.

Authorities have not specified the boy’s medical problem.

An entry from the Police Department’s daily patrol resume about the incident said a known man and woman are suspected of causing bodily injury to an infant.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Porras declined to release further details.

Lucius Mitchell is survived by his parents and two sisters, all Grand Junction residents.
