Bennet to visit GJ as part of education system study

Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., will visit two Grand Valley elementary schools on Wednesday as he tours the state discussing education.

Bennet is a former superintendent of the Denver Public Schools and has been identified by Time magazine as a top education reformer who will be a major player if the federal No Child Left Behind Act is modified or if there is other action regarding education.

Bennet, elected in November to a full term, will visit Clifton Elementary School, 3276 F Road, and Orchard Avenue Elementary School, 1800 Orchard Ave.

In doing so, Bennet will see both ends of the spectrum. Clifton Elementary School last year received $2.6 million to help improve student test performance because it had consistently marked some of the lowest scores in the Colorado Student Assessment Program.

Orchard Avenue Elementary, on the other hand, is a U.S. Department of Education 2010 Blue Ribbon Award winning school.
