Bennet raises $1.2 million in 2nd quarter

Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., raised $1.24 million in the second quarter of 2010, prompting his campaign to crow that he is better positioned to fight off a GOP challenge.

The quarter’s haul brings Bennet’s war chest to $7.44 million and sets him well ahead of either GOP contender.

Former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton collected $900,000 in the second quarter, and her opponent, Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck, collected $417,000.

Bennet’s campaign said it collected the contributions from 20,128 individual donors and that more than 75 percent of them contributed less than $200 per person.

Bennet is challenged within the Democratic Party by former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, who has yet to release his second-quarter campaign contributions.
