Biden jet sits in Grand Junction; veep’s in Snowmass

An aircraft displaying the insignia of the United States of America sits on the tarmac at Grand Junction Regional Airport Friday after an official motorcade shut down Horizon Drive Thursday evening.

Vice President Joe Biden is spending the Presidents Day holiday in Snowmass, while his jet sits on the tarmac at Grand Junction Regional Airport.

Air Force Two arrived Thursday night at the airport.

Biden is scheduled to be in Snowmass through Monday and no public events are scheduled, the vice president’s office said.

The vice president’s arrival created a spectacle on Horizon Drive Thursday night, with Grand Junction police and Colorado State Patrol vehicles lining up on the road.

Authorities briefly closed businesses along Horizon Drive and prevented customers from leaving while Biden’s motorcade made its way down Horizon, then onto eastbound Interstate 70.

First Lady Michelle Obama is expected to join Biden in Aspen this weekend for a ski vacation.
