Bike event to restrict Monument access

Motorists planning to enter Colorado National Monument on Saturday morning should plan to use the Fruita entrance or Little Park Road to allow the “Tour of the Moon” bicycle tour to use Rim Rock Drive between DS Road and the Grand Junction entrance.

The Tour of the Moon, a new recreational event, will travel from the Grand Junction entrance to Fruita in the westbound lane.

The Grand Junction entrance will be closed to motorized traffic from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Glade Park residents will be able to drive on Rim Rock Drive from DS Road downhill to the Grand Junction entrance.

The monument and all facilities otherwise will remain open to the public during the cycling tour. The Serpents Trail will remain open, but the parking areas for Serpents Trail will temporarily be inaccessible to cars from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Cyclists not participating in the Tour of the Moon event are asked to ride east to west on Rim Rock Drive between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m.
