Bingaman is an All-American

Colorado Mesa University’s Brandon Bingaman, shown in a file photo, earned 2013 Division II Ping All-America honors on Wednesday.

Recent Colorado Mesa University graduate Brandon Bingaman has been selected to the third team of the 2013 Division II Ping All-America Teams.

Bingaman, a Fruita Monument High School alumnus who now hails from Montrose, was an All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection as a senior. He qualified individually for the NCAA West/South Central Golf Regional, where he finished ninth with a three-day score of 213, two shy of qualifying for the national meet. His season average was 72.2 strokes per round, playing nine tournaments and 27 rounds.

CMU coach Paul Brown said, “I couldn’t be more proud of the young man,” and he added Bingaman played through a back ailment much of the season, making his accomplishment more impressive.

Bingaman sprained his back doing strength and conditioning training before the season started, and it prevented him from playing in the Mavericks’ first meet of the spring. From there, he persevered and fought through the injury, Brown said.

“I don’t think he was 100 percent until the end of the season,” Brown said.
