BLM extending its comment period on Fram drilling plan in Mesa County

The public now has an extra month to comment on a company’s proposal to drill 108 oil wells south of Palisade and west of Grand Mesa.

In response to public requests, the Bureau of Land Management has agreed to extend the comment period deadline until Aug. 28, 30 days later than originally planned.

Fram Operating LLC’s Whitewater Master Development Plan covers some 52,000 acres. Fram hopes to drill its wells over four years from 12 new well pads, 11 on BLM-administered land, and the 12th on private land but accessing federally owned minerals.

The company has estimated the project could produce up to 8.7 million barrels over 20 years and create about 70 construction and year-round production jobs.

The BLM had issued an environmental assessment on the project in 2014, but later determined it required revision to account for impacts such as anticipated hydraulic fracturing of the wells.

The amended environmental assessment may be found at Written comments may be sent to the Bureau of Land Management, Attn: Whitewater MDP, 2300 River Frontage Road, Silt, CO 81652, or comments may be submitted to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
