Blog: Inauguration 2009 — ‘Saskatchewan Screamer’ bears down on D.C.

January 14th, 2009

President-elect Barack Obama is starting to ask us to help. Visit — it’s about volunteer events on Martin Luther King day, which is today (the federal holiday will be Monday).

I’m still looking for more ideas. So far, growing a garden or raising chickens and sharing what you don’t need with others, is my favorite.

It seems obvious Inauguration Day is going to be cold and cloudy. Last night’s news called a new cold front bearing down on the Atlantic coast a “Saskatchewan Screamer.” That may not matter to Americans a whole lot. From all indications. they’re still coming.

Area hotels say that reports of full bookings were premature. Is anybody saying that reports of hotel rooms costing $1,000 — or more — per night probably stopped people from making that 1-800 call?

Here’s some information about events to be shown on cable television.

Disney Channel will show the Kids Concert, featuring Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, live beginning at 6 p.m. mountain time. Again, sorry, “regular” TV watchers.

HBO clarified its plans for the Bruce Springsteen concert at 2:30 p.m. eastern time at the Lincoln Memorial. HBO will show it at 9:30 p.m. mountain time and online.

One of the Denver papers had an article about how “secretive” all of the congressional offices are about who they gave inauguration tickets to (and whether campaign donations were a factor). Rep. John Salazar’s office can give them my name. For the sake of full
disclosure, I think I donated $50 to him. Maybe it was two years ago.
