Felony menacing alleged
Shane Elliot Benge, 24, 118 Hillcrest Manor Ave., was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of felony menacing, obstructing a peace officer, criminal mischief and crimes against at-risk adults.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department, officers responded to the 100 block of Hillcrest Avenue on a report that Benge had assaulted an at-risk adult, then used a golf club to break a large window valued at more than $1,000 and enter the victim’s residence.
When confronted by officers, according to an arrest affidavit, Benge repeatedly resisted arrest but was eventually handcuffed and arrested. Benge told officers the incident began over a disagreement about how to sell a moped, according to the affidavit.
Canyon hiker died in fall
A hiker whose body was discovered April 9 in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park died of multiple traumatic injuries secondary to a fall, according to the Montrose County coroner.
Marion Byrd Gamble, 52, of Winter Springs, Fla., went hiking on a day permit April 6 and park rangers found his vehicle the next day. They launched a search and found his body April 9, but because of inclement weather couldn’t recover it until Friday.
Gamble’s death was accidental, according to Montrose County Corner Thomas Canfield.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Two juveniles were issued summonses Friday morning on suspicion of stealing items valued at less than $100 from the Opportunity Center, 1129 Colorado Ave.
■ Brice Allen Sauer, 34, 3102 F 1/4 Road, was arrested Saturday evening on suspicion of violating a protection order and bond conditions by contacting the victim via text message.
■ Shelly Higgins, 38, was issued a summons Monday afternoon on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, turning left in front of traffic and driving without vehicle registration after a crash near 29 1/2 Road and North Avenue.
