Arrest in child sex assault
Ronald Baker, 25, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexual assault and sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. The arrest occurred while Baker was already in custody on suspicion of unrelated domestic violence incidents.
A 3-year-old victim was allegedly able to describe to a Mesa County Sheriff’s deputy an incident with Baker. According to police, Baker committed sexual assault on the young girl’s mother several days earlier.
24-year-old man dies at jail
A 24-year-old inmate died in the Mesa County Jail shortly after midnight Wednesday, caused by longtime and pre-existing medical conditions, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
Tomas A. Beauford died as a result of a seizure disorder, according to the Mesa County Coroner, who ruled it a natural death. Jail and medical staff were aware of Beauford’s medical conditions, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and checked on him often. He was housed alone and foul play is not suspected, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Beauford was a Colorado Department of Human Services Regional Center client and had been booked into the Mesa County Jail Feb. 29 on suspicion of multiple counts of assault and unlawful sexual contact with multiple victims. He remained at the jail pending court proceedings.
Arson, mischief alleged
Authorities made an arrest Thursday morning after one vehicle was burned and others were damaged just west of Glenwood Springs.
Wayne Earl Olson, 51, was being held in Garfield County Jail after the incident.
Garfield County sheriff’s spokesman Walt Stowe said damage to a couple of other vehicles on the same property included tires being sliced and a windshield broken.
Olson was arrested on suspicion of felony third-degree arson, criminal mischief, harassment, stalking, menacing, reckless endangerment, domestic violence and violation of restraining orders. Stowe had no information about the possible relationship between Olson and the owners of any of the vehicles.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Forrest Harvey, 22, was arrested Saturday night in the 1500 block of White Avenue on suspicion of assaulting his wife. According to an affidavit, he came home very drunk and choked his wife during an argument about whether he was too drunk to care for their infant son.
■ Rachel Leach, 23, was issued a summons Tuesday night in the 400 block of 28 1/4 Road on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.
