Woman accused of assault on hospital security guard

A woman who was a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital was arrested for alleged second-degree assault on an officer Sunday.

Renae Rae Waltz, 49, was arrested after staff at the hospital reported she was “swinging and kicking at medical staff,” according to her arrest affidavit. A security guard reported she used a closed fist to punch him in the jaw when he entered her room to assist staff.

Man arrested for allegedly shooting gun in apartment

Grand Junction police arrested Zion Clark, 37, after investigating a report of a gunshot inside an apartment at 2601 Belford Ave. on Friday evening.

Police responded to the Garden Village Apartments and witnesses to the incident told them Clark had a gun wrapped in a blanket and seemed agitated, and that he was going to confront a friend he suspected of stealing from him, according to an arrest affidavit. Witnesses also said they heard a loud bang and yelling and saw Clark running from the scene.

A 7-year-old girl was at the apartment at the time, according to the affidavit. Investigators noted the gun was shot into the floor just inside the apartment entrance.

Police later contacted Clark during a traffic stop and did not find any firearms after they searched his vehicle. Clark said he didn’t want to talk about it and was arrested on suspicion of illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon, reckless endangerment and child abuse.

Clark received a $2,000 personal-recognizance bond Monday in Mesa County Court.
