Man faces many charges

Joseph Daniel Yoder, 25, was arrested Wednesday at 836 Henry Circle in Fruita on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft and property damage, among other charges, following an alleged hit and run incident, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at 1:39 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a hit and run in the area of 635 Stone Mountain Drive in Fruita and found a fence and some landscaping had been damaged, according to an arrest affidavit. A person told deputies she believed the driver who caused the damage, then left the scene, was hiding in the car at 836 Henry Circle. Deputies found a black, 1994 Mercedes E320 with bumper and undercarriage damage at the address. Yoder was also at the residence but fled the scene, according to the affidavit.

Deputies discovered the vehicle, which belonged to Yoder’s father, had been taken without permission from 2992 Interstate 70-Business Loop, where it had been left while Yoder’s father was in the Mesa County Jail.  Fruita police responded to the Henry Circle address again shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday on a report that Yoder was in the middle of a suspected burglary. He was arrested at the scene and booked into the Mesa County Jail.
