Downtown tour ends in crash
Numerous reports were made Tuesday night of a man who, after causing trouble at two local bars, eventually drove off in a truck that ended up crashing into a building along Pitkin Avenue.
Charles Allen Pruitt, 48, of Grand Junction, was arrested for DUI, reckless driving, obstructing a peace officer, and leaving the scene of an accident when contacted at 535 S. Fifth Street after crashing his truck at 309 Pitkin Ave.
Before allegedly crashing his car, Pruitt is believed to have caused a scene and drove away from Thunder Struck Valley on Main Street downtown. He then, according to a report, picked a fight at Naggy McGee’s on Colorado Avenue.
Pruitt, after offering to police that he was “drunk as hell,” vomited multiple times in the backseat of a patrol cruiser on his way to the Mesa County Jail, an affidavit additionally reads.
Head gashed in brawl
A Grand Junction man topped off a daylong drinking binge Sunday by allegedly accosting one of his hosts with a paring knife and assaulting the other with his fists, according to Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
William Joseph Hadden, 31, of Fruita, drank alcohol all day and then tried to leave before his two hosts told him he should stay and “sleep it off,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Hadden reportedly responded by pulling a four-inch paring knife and threatening to kill the pair.
He then left, but returned a short time later and punched one of the hosts, then apologized after being placed in a headlock, the sheriff’s office reported.
Hadden later was uncooperative during his arrest and allegedly gashed his head on the divider in the back seat of the patrol car deputies placed him. The incident culminated in the 900 block of E. Carolina Avenue.
Hadden was booked into Mesa County jail on suspicion of criminal menacing, third-degree assault and first-degree criminal tampering.
