Woman, 21, takes plea in motel, cop car ramming
A 21-year-old woman who was the passenger in a car that rammed a Grand Junction motel and a police car while fleeing law enforcement in February has pleaded guilty to a single count of drug possession and been sentenced to probation.
Catalina Garcia, who was 20 when she was arrested and charged with multiple felonies including attempted second-degree assault and vehicular eluding after an incident at the Motel 6 at 776 Horizon Drive, agreed on Thursday to a plea that will allow her to serve two years of probation and complete 48 hours of mandatory useful public service.
Garcia’s plea includes a “wobbler” provision, which means if she successfully completes her sentence she can petition the court to convert her felony drug possession charge to a misdemeanor, according to Mesa County District Judge Brian Flynn.
The case for Enrique Calvillo, the 19-year-old accused of driving the car, remains ongoing in Mesa County Court.
