Injured motorcyclist dies
• Darrin Wood, 22, of Glenwood Springs, died Thursday night from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident Aug. 7, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The State Patrol said in a news release that Wood was traveling north at a high rate of speed on Garfield County Road 109 between Carbondale and Glenwood Springs when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the left side of the road.
Wood’s passenger, Tanya Voigt, 35, of Carbondale, was thrown from the motorcycle, but she was wearing a helmet and sustained minor injuries, the State Patrol said.
Wood remained on the motorcycle as it went through a barb-wire fence and into an irrigation ditch, where the motorcycle landed on top of him. Wood, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Valley View Hospital in
Glenwood Springs, the State Patrol said.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
• A thief stole property valued at more than $1,000 from a home in the 1000 block of Chipeta Avenue on Wednesday.
• A person in the 1500 block of Main Street told police Tuesday that another person stole more than $1,000 from him via forgery, theft and identity theft.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
• Robert James Johnson, 39, 2202 H Road, was arrested at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion that he assaulted another man while at the Mesa County Justice Center. He was booked into Mesa County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstruction of government operation.
