Shooting ends standoff
An hourslong standoff with law enforcement in an Orchard Mesa neighborhood Saturday ended with the shooting of an unidentified adult male about 4 p.m., according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and police scanner traffic.
Radio traffic during much of the afternoon indicated the suspect, allegedly armed with a rifle, refused to come out of a home in the area of C Road between 32 and 32 1/2 roads.
Officers at the scene reported that shots were fired at 3:29 p.m. and again at 4:06, scanner traffic indicated. It’s not known if police or the suspect fired those alleged shots.
Heather Benjamin, spokeswoman with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed late Saturday evening that the suspect was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
She also confirmed that the suspect was shot by law enforcement. A SWAT team was at the scene. The Grand Junction Police Department is the lead investigative agency in this incident.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Property was removed from a residence about 11 a.m. Nov. 27 in the 2500 block of Dewey Place, causing a loss of more than $2,000.
■ Two known persons are suspected of assaulting and menacing employees with a weapon shortly before 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at a business in the 2800 block of North Avenue.
■ Adrien Adamsparry, 49, was arrested and released after receiving a summons on suspicion of striking a person and causing injury shortly after 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in the 400 block of Gunnison Avenue
■ Olivia Barela, 18, and a juvenile female, 17, were arrested and released after receiving summonses shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on suspicion of shoplifting in the 2800 block of North Avenue.
■ Property was stolen about midnight Sept. 1 from a vehicle in the 2800 block of North Avenue, causing a loss of more than $2,000.
