Shooting ends standoff

An hourslong standoff with law enforcement in an Orchard Mesa neighborhood Saturday ended with the shooting of an unidentified adult male about 4 p.m., according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and police scanner traffic.

Radio traffic during much of the afternoon indicated the suspect, allegedly armed with a rifle, refused to come out of a home in the area of C Road between 32 and 32 1/2 roads.

Officers at the scene reported that shots were fired at 3:29 p.m. and again at 4:06, scanner traffic indicated. It’s not known if police or the suspect fired those alleged shots.
