Mom cited in son’s joyride

Alisha Baker, 27, was issued a summons Saturday afternoon on suspicion of child abuse and neglect.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department, on Saturday afternoon her 9-year-old son took his grandmother’s car from their home on Meadow Lane in Clifton’s Grove Creek subdivision, drove down the 3100 block of Chipeta Avenue and crashed into a willow tree at 470 Ananessa Drive.

The boy was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and Baker was contacted at home, where she told deputies she was asleep with her 2-year-old child when her 9-year-old took the car, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies reminded her of an incident in August when the boy took his grandmother’s car and crashed it through a fence, according to a report of Saturday’s incident.

The boy was placed in Department of Human Services custody and Baker was issued a summons for child abuse and neglect.

Menacing with club alleged

Steven Andrew Lavornia, 21, 206 Lila Ave., was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, menacing and criminal mischief.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department, a 24-year-old man told deputies that Lavornia and three other males broke into his home Dec. 12, entering his room while he slept and throwing beer on him. The men forced the victim to kneel and threatened him with a club, according to an arrest affidavit, then smashed his 32-inch TV on their way out of his home.

The victim told deputies he believed the males were upset about a fight that had happened at his home the previous evening during a party at his house.

Young boy found wandering

A young boy was found wandering outside in the 400 block of Mae Street on Monday night after escaping from the apartment where he lives with his grandparents.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department, neighbors found the boy outside wearing pajama bottoms and a T-shirt, and he was unable to show them where he lived.

However, he took responding deputies to his home, according to a report of the incident, where his grandmother and grandfather said they’d all gone to bed but the boy had slipped out without them knowing.
