Fires damage homes

A home at 2233 West Tiffany Court sustained fire damage Friday afternoon, according to the Grand Junction Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to 2323 Grand Park Drive shortly after 2 p.m. Friday on a report of possible smoke or vapors coming from the building. Some units responding to that incident were able to leave for a reported fire nearby at 2233 West Tiffany Court and were able to suppress an attic fire. It appears the fire began outside the home and spread to the home’s siding and into the attic, according to the Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. No one was injured in the fire.

DUI checkpoint today


The Colorado State Patrol and other local agencies will participate in a checkpoint today to check for intoxicated drivers in Mesa County. The location of the checkpoint has not been released.

Four snared in drug arrests


Four people were arrested over several hours Thursday night as the Western Colorado Drug Task Force conducted surveillance at Racquetclub Apartments, 2915 Orchard Ave.

Donovan Martinez, 23, 2853 Belford Ave., and Clark Weeda, 43, 587 Sycamore St., were booked into the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of drug-related charges after they were arrested while driving away from the complex in separate vehicles, according to an arrest affidavit. Weeda was allegedly in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, while Martinez allegedly provided Weeda a baggie with meth, affidavits said.

Antoinette Smith, 44, 2915 Orchard Ave., No. D14, was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth and child abuse, while she allegedly told officers she had left her 12-year-old daughter alone inside her unit. Officers went there and allegedly recovered small amounts of meth and a digital scale, among other paraphernalia. Nicholas Syers, 23, homeless, was arrested on suspicion of tampering with physical evidence after allegedly trying to flush items down the toilet after officers entered unit D14, an arrest affidavit said.

Minors get drug tickets


■ Bajon Nance, 20, 939 North Ave., was cited Nov. 20 on suspicion of underage possession of marijuana at 939 North Ave., unit A226, which is student housing at Colorado Mesa University.

■ Two juveniles were cited for suspected drug violations Tuesday at Grand Junction High School, 1400 N. Fifth St.

■ A juvenile female was issued a summons on suspicion of being a minor in possession of marijuana and a 14-year-old boy was issued a summons on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.

■ On Wednesday, a juvenile male was issued a summons on suspicion of being a minor in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at The Opportunity Center, 1129 Colorado Ave.


According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

■ A known person is suspected of sexually assaulting a person Sunday in the northwest part of the city.

■ Someone stole less than $500 worth of property Wednesday from a vehicle in the 2900 block of Golden Hawk Way.

■ Someone stole more than $500 worth of property Wednesday from a vehicle near the 100 block of Sun Hawk Drive.
