Vehicle taken, wrecked
Gerardo Lugo, 19, 2979 Yew Leaf Willow Ave. was arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department, Yugo took a vehicle without permission from an acquaintance and wrecked it at the intersection of 28 Road and Orchard Avenue. Lugo later told police he and two passengers fled from the scene, and he went to St. Mary’s Hospital later that night to tend to his injuries, according to an affidavit.
According to the Fruita Police Department:
■ Stephen James Poyner, 31, 2970 East Avenue, Rifle, was arrested Monday on suspicion of second-degree burglary and theft from a building.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Someone attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at a business at 2903 North Ave. on Sunday.
■ Someone used the identity of another person in three different states with several different employers. The incidents may date to Jan. 1, 2009.
■ Someone stole items valued at less than $500 from a vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Rood Ave on Saturday.
■ Someone stole items valued at less than $500 from an apartment in the 1500 block of Poplar Avenue on Sunday.
■ Items valued at more than $1,000 were taken from a vehicle parked in the 2000 block of Mesa Avenue on Monday.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
■ Deputies received a report that a student assaulted another student Friday at Central High School.
