Pretend gun leads to arrest
A 28-year-old man who pretended to have a gun in his pocket was so convincing police arrested him, the Grand Junction Police Department reported.
Joshua Kellaway allegedly spit in the face of one man and threatened two others by placing his right hand into his coat pocket and stating, “I’m going to put you in the ground. I will put you in the ground,” police said.
Witnesses told police it appeared that Kellaway had a gun in his pocket and intended to use it. He did not. Kellaway was nevertheless arrested on suspicion of felony menacing and third-degree assault, according to police.
GJ man sentenced in pot case
A 45-year-old Grand Junction man has been given 60 days in a Nebraska jail and five years of probation for being caught with 476 pounds of marijuana.
Newspaper reports say Shane Peterson was sentenced last week. He’d pleaded no contest to possession of cocaine and guilty to possession of more than a pound of marijuana. His attorney, Scott Helvie, said Peterson was hauling auto parts when he was pulled over in Lancaster County, Neb., on Jan. 10 last year. Helvie says his client had no idea he was hauling so much marijuana and says Peterson cooperated with law enforcement after he was stopped.
Fire damages house in Delta
A house in Delta was severely damaged by fire Thursday. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the Delta Police Department reported.
Delta Police Department, Delta Fire Department and Delta County Ambulance District responded to a report of the house fire in the 800 block of 1400 Lane shortly before 11 a.m. Jan. 30, police said.
Police arrived on scene to find smoke and flames coming from the roof area of the home. Officers found the house was not occupied.
Delta Fire Department responded with 18 fire personnel and six pieces of equipment to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Jason Treuber, 32, was booked into Mesa County Jail after his arrest in the 400 block of Broken Arrow Drive shortly before 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27 on suspicion of false imprisonment.
■ Someone forced entry into a residence in the 1800 block of White Avenue sometime before 5 p.m. Jan. 22 and removed property valued at less than $1,000 and caused less than $1,000 in damage.
■ Charles Gordon, 35, was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting, driving under revocation, obstruction, and displaying fictitious plates after being contacted in the 2800 block of North Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday.
■ Steven Butters, 60, was booked into Mesa County Jail after police arrested him in the 400 block of Brach Drive on suspicion of DUI, possession of a controlled substance schedule III and reckless driving Friday.
■ Kaleb Labarthe, 20, was issued a summons shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of South 14th Street and Ute Avenue on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, no proof of insurance, possession of alcohol by a person under age 21, minor in possession of marijuana, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
