Assault, gun reported

A 27-year-old Mesa County man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault after he allegedly punched a man in the face and brandished a gun, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies arrested Carlos Aragon about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Dawn Drive after he called police to report the incident, claiming he feared for his safety, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

During an interview, the victim alleged he was at the residence to help a friend when Aragon confronted him, punched him and brandished the handgun, the Sheriff’s Office said.

In addition to assault charges, Aragon was cited on suspicion of felony menacing and false reporting.

Third call a charm?

Police were called to a house in the 2900 block of Globe Willow Drive multiple times Monday to deal with drunken people fighting, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Jennifer Shofler, 41, was cited for disorderly conduct and taken to detox after she allegedly called police to her home three times, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Shofler and another woman greeted deputies upon their arrival shortly after midnight but denied there was any physical altercation between them.

Shofler originally called to report an assault, then denied making the calls.

The women agreed to separate and return to their beds, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies were called to the home a second time after Shofler allegedly fell to the floor and bruised her face, claiming the other woman struck her. The other woman denied hitting Shofler and was taken from the home to stay with relatives.

Shofler called deputies a third time about 1:30 a.m. asking to have her uncle removed from the home. During an interview, Shofler continued to be loud and abusive, which resulted in the citation and a ride to detox, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
