Suspect rolls car into canal

A 50-year-old man with six driving under the influence convictions on his record was arrested Saturday after the Toyota 4Runner he was driving rolled into a canal near the 2300 block of South Broadway, according to an affidavit.

Frederick Tobias Berg, who has eight prior felony convictions, showed “six of six clues” of being intoxicated when law enforcement responded to the wreck, according the report. A Colorado State Patrol trooper wrote that it appeared as though Berg had “attempted to turn around on the canal road and rolled over into the canal. The trooper noted that the vehicle would have had to pass a private property sign on the way.

Berg refused to perform roadside maneuvers and faces a felony driving under the influence charge. He was released Monday on a personal-recognizance bond issued by Mesa County Judge Craig Henderson.
