Robbery at knifepoint
Thomas Blackmon, 51, 2819 U.S. Highway 50, was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of aggravated robbery, menacing and theft after he allegedly brandished a 4-inch knife and demanded cash at Papa John’s Pizza, 1310 North Ave.
An arrest affidavit said he explained to workers, calmly, “I just want the money,” before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Blackmon was arrested nearby at 1411 Glenwood Ave., and was positively identified by employees as the robbery suspect, the affidavit said. Officers noted Blackman’s breath smelled of alcohol, the affidavit said.
Pay phone inexperience
The Palisade Police Department said officers were dispatched Jan. 11 to 208 W. Eighth St., on a report of a 911 hang-up.
“Investigation revealed two girls were trying to call home from a pay phone and didn’t know how to use one,” a Palisade police blotter said.
Man gives up 3 handguns
A 70-year-old man went to the front counter of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday and turned over three handguns. He also provided 179 rounds of ammunition.
The man explained he had taken the weapons from the homes of deceased family members in Alabama. None of the weapons turned up stolen after checks were run.
The man explained, “he had no use for the guns and wished them to be booked for destruction,” a report said.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Two boys, ages 13 and 16, were cited on suspicion of disorderly conduct Wednesday after they were contacted at 1405 Wellington Ave..
■ A woman reported fraudulent use of her checks in the 600 block of Lavender Court, causing a loss of more than $1,000. An investigation is active.
■ Shante Webb, 23, was cited on suspicion of theft of less than $500 at Walmart, 2881 North Ave., on Thursday.
■ A loss of more than $1,000 was reported at 519 Grand Ave., after a service was rendered but not paid for. The report dated to Aug. 24.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
■ Deputies took a shoplifting report Monday at Clifton’s City Market with possible suspect information.
■ Tristin Haase, 26, 3256 Cardenas Drive, Unit B, was arrested on suspicion of menacing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, prohibited use of weapon and harrassment after she allegedly brandished a gun at another woman during a confrontation Thursday night during a party.
According to the Montrose County Sheriff’s Department:
■ A handgun was found Thursday in the 51400 block of Gunnison Road in Olathe,
■ Deputies took a report of dog attacking another dog Wednesday in the 53500 block of Ida Road.
■ Deputies were called Wednesday to handle an unspecified livestock problem in the 1000 block of North Second Street.
According to the Palisade Police Department:
■ Officers on Sunday assisted Mesa County deputies on a reported verbal disturbance at the intersection of 35 Road and Front Street.
■ Two people inside a pickup were warned Saturday about trespassing after hours at Riverbend Park.
■ An investigation was opened Jan. 8 after two men were involved in an altercation in the 100 block of E. Third St.
