Rangers search for body
Colorado National Monument rangers responded to the report of a body in Monument Canyon shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday, said Nick Myers, Colorado National Monument lead ranger.
The body of the unidentified person was situated in Monument Canyon near the base of Otto’s Trail, Myers said.
The body was lying northeast of Independence Monument at the bottom of a cliff. Myers said the cause of death is unknown but speculated it may have been caused by a fall.
Two park rangers and members of the Mesa County Search and Rescue body retrieval team were still hiking into the area late Wednesday afternoon, Myers said.
