2 kilos of meth discovered
A traffic stop Saturday morning along Interstate 70 in Garfield County led to the discovery of more than 2 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Sheriff’s deputies say they observed an eastbound vehicle being driven erratically near mile marker 94, and they impounded the vehicle when they learned the driver was from out of state and his license revoked. Deputies found approximately 2,185 grams of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of more than $200,000.
Driver Pablo Rene Avalos, 60, of Rock Granada Hills, Calif., along with two passengers — Ruben Dario Gonzalez-Peva, 22, and Alexis Montoya-Cazares, 19, both of Pomona, Calif. — were arrested and jailed.
Pole cut down for copper
Grand Junction police said that someone cut down a wooden utility pole near 24 3/4 Road and West Independent Avenue on Friday, Once the pole was on the ground, all of the copper wiring was removed.
Damage to the pole was estimated at $5,000, and the value of the copper wiring was less than $1,000.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department
■ John Ferrell, 38, was arrested and accused Thursday, just before 10 a.m., of violating a protection order and violating bond conditions by consuming alcohol. He was arrested an hour later and accused of again violating a protection order by calling the protected party on the recorded jail line.
■ Abelino Fidel Sanchez, 23, was arrested Thursday and accused of possession of a handgun while a convicted felon, possession of a dangerous/illegal weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.
■ Joseph Collins, 29, is accused of illegally entering 2881 North Ave. on Jan. 13 and of possession of burglary tools and other stolen merchandise.
■ Justin Hibbard, 34, was arrested Jan. 22 on an active warrant and issued a summons on suspicion of obstructing arrest.
■ Someone entered a vehicle parked in a garage at 2538 Pinyon Ave. on Jan. 22 and removed an item of value.
■ Angel Yvonne Jordan, 27, is accused of unlawfully removing items valued at between $500 and $1,000 from 2545 Rimrock Ave. on Wednesday, and possession.
