GJ man ends up in Utah out of gas
An 80-year-old Grand Junction man missing since Tuesday night was found sitting his car after it ran out of gas in Utah, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Billie O’Rear was located around 2:30 p.m. by Utah Highway Patrol. Utah officials received a call from a person who saw O’Rear’s vehicle parked along Interstate 70 for several hours.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies took gas to O’Rear and stayed with him at mile marker 229, just inside the Utah border, until his family arrived.
O’Rear left his home on the Redlands around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and was expected to return after a short shopping trip to the Rimrock Walmart. Sheriff’s deputies verified he never reached his destination.
O’Rear has no immediate medical concerns, but his failure to return home from a quick errand is outside his normal behavior, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the Montrose Police Department:
■ Emily Sparks, 20, of Parachute was arrested shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of East Main Street on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, posession of marijuana under age 21, and driving on roadways laned for traffic.
