2 home fires extinguished
Grand Junction firefighters responded to a structure fire shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday at 1251 Bookcliff Ave., Unit 20, then battled another blaze shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday at 585 25 1/2 Road, Unit 8.
At the first scene, firefighters found a fire in a second-story window in a two-story apartment complex. The fire was confined to one bedroom, and one person was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation and taken to a hospital for care. The apartment is the only one that had structural damage. Unit 20 and other apartments had minor smoke damage.
The second fire was a small kitchen fire that extended to the outside of the mobile home. No one was injured, and the fire caused minor damage.
The causes of both fires are under investigation.
Thief pedals from scene
Grand Junction police are seeking information that may lead to the arrest of a man who stole items from a vehicle in the Colorado Mesa University parking garage at 1455 N. 12th St.
Between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. June 21, a man entered a vehicle in the parking garage and stole cash, headphones, and a burnt orange North Face backpack that contained a hat and a black notebook.
A man captured by parking garage video surveillance equipment during that time is described as bald, white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 30 to 35 years old, with a full beard, wearing jean shorts, white tennis shoes, sunglasses and a dark, sleeveless T-shirt. The man was riding a red mountain bike.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Julien Lopez-Ruiz, 18, was arrested Wednesday at 2830 North Ave. and booked into the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of felony menacing and possession of an alcoholic beverage by an underage person after he allegedly threatened a person with a bat in the 500 block of 28 1/2 Road.
■ A thief entered a residence Tuesday in the 2700 block of B 1/2 Road, stole items valued at less than $20,000 and caused less than $1,000 in damage.
■ Gary Zavadil, 69, was issued a summons July 2 on suspicion of trespassing and indecent exposure after urinating in the 300 block of White Ave.
■ A thief stole property valued at less than $100 Wednesday in the area of 28 1/2 Road and North Avenue.
