Man dies in Black Canyon
Andrew Michael Barnes, 27, of Fort Collins, suffered multiple traumatic injuries during a fall Wednesday at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, the Montrose County Coroner’s Office said Friday. Barnes was found Wednesday afternoon near “Painted Wall” at the bottom of the canyon. The death was ruled accidental.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Someone Wednesday used various tools to pry open a vending machine in the lobby of a building located at 114 N. Spruce St. A person who works at a nearby business reported hearing “a bunch of coins” hitting the floor, but didn’t check to see what was happening, according to a report. Approximately $100 was stolen. The case was inactive for lack of leads.
■ Denise Johann, 41, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbery, theft, possession of a controlled substance and violation of bail-bond conditions after she allegedly tried to walk out of Kmart, 2890 North Ave., with a hose splitter and gardening seeds concealed in her purse, according to an arrest affidavit.
■ A pickup was reported stolen in the pre-dawn hours of Friday outside Charlie Dwellington’s, 103 W Main St.
■ A vehicle parked outside Carville’s Auto Mart, 2122 North Ave., was reportedly damaged when someone attempted to enter the vehicle. It was reported Sunday.
■ Bradford Smith, 46, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief in the 900 block of Northern Way.
