Child sex abuse alleged
A 26-year-old Mesa County man was arrested after he allegedly admitted to inappropriate contact with a 3-year-old girl, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Christopher Lee Baker allegedly licked and inappropriately touched the child on five separate occasions, according to an affidavit.
Baker allegedly spent July 4 with the girl. Afterward, the girl told her mother that Baker acted “weird” during the visit, the police report said.
By pointing to anatomical drawings, the girl allegedly told sheriff’s investigators Baker licked and touched her inappropriately “lots” of times and that she had also licked him, according to the report.
Baker denied he ever caused the child to touch or lick him but admitted he knew his actions were wrong and asked for help, according to the report.
Drinks, babysitting bad mix
A 52-year-old woman who took her granddaughters to the Mesa County Fair became so intoxicated she was unable to use her cellphone to call the girls, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Staff at a first-aid station contacted police to report the woman, later identified as Pamela Heberlein, was “highly intoxicated” and asking for help to locate the girls.
A sheriff’s deputy contacted Heberlein, who said she was drinking to celebrate her birthday while the girls took rides. Heberlein was allegedly unable to give a clear description of either girl but realized after questioning that she had a cellphone that listed her granddaughter’s telephone number, the report stated.
Staff at the fair used Heberlein’s cell phone to contact the two girls, who were taken to stay with their parents.
When asked how much she had to drink, Heberlein said she couldn’t remember, but said, “I know I drank enough to do the job,” according to a report.
Sheriff’s deputies reported the incident to the Mesa County Department of Human Services, according to the report.
