Charges likely in crashes

A 36-year-old Grand Junction man was advised on a slew of possible charges Tuesday in connection with two motorcycle crashes and a high-speed chase in June.

Joseph Merrill faces possible charges including two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, vehicular eluding and careless driving. He was allegedly the driver of a motorcycle that crashed twice on the night of June 15, first in the 3000 block of Thrush Drive and then near D 1/2 and 33 1/2 roads, after a bloodied Merrill allegedly hopped on his bike and fled following the first accident. A woman who was a passenger suffered a compound fracture of her thumb as a result of the initial crash.

Merrill was issued a $10,000 cash-only bond on Tuesday.
