Police: Mother-son outing ends in crash, $10K bond

A man who was arrested for stealing a car after attending an event in February at Two Rivers Convention Center, and later crashing the vehicle while drunk in Summit County later that night, was advised by a Mesa County judge Wednesday.

Michael McEvoy, 43, was attending an Ultimate Fighting Championship event with his mother, according to an arrest affidavit, when McEvoy allegedly swiped the keys to the car from his mother’s handbag, which was “cage side” unattended. He was later arrested in Summit County after crashing the car, police said.

Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein said in court that McEvoy has four felony convictions, and current cases spanning four separate jurisdictions. He was issued a $10,000 cash-only bond, on a possible charge of second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft.

Fruita police find man

Kevin Paquette said the main sustained injuries to his knuckles, presumably from his fall to the asphalt, but that at this point it appears he passed out in the middle of Colorado Highway 340 while crossing the street and was not hit by any vehicles.
