Man accused in stabbing
A seven-time felon was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly stabbing and biting a woman in the 2900 block of View Drive.
Mesa County Judge Bruce Raaum on Friday ordered that 31-year-old Lynell Michael Brunner be held in custody on a $20,000 cash-only bond after District Attorney Dan Rubinstein reviewed his criminal history.
Brunner was arrested on suspicion of felony counts of assault, criminal trespass of a vehicle, and attempted aggravated motor vehicle theft, as well as a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, according to an arrest affidavit.
The 39-year-old victim, who was “covered in blood” when contacted by Mesa County sheriff’s deputies shortly after the attack, said Brunner had stolen her phone and she went to the address on View Drive to get it back, the report said.
While she was talking to other people at the house about her phone, she said Brunner jumped in her car and tried to put it in gear. The woman said she jumped on the running board and into the driver’s side window.
“As she was reaching into the car to grab the keys out of the ignition, she stated Lynell grabbed the pocket knife from the center console and stabbed her left hand,” the report said. “She also stated Lynell also bit her on her right arm” and punched her.
The woman said she eventually convinced Brunner to get out of her car, and she drove away. When confronted, Brunner told deputies the woman stabbed him and he had bit her wrist to get her knife out of her hand.
