Gold’s Gym theft reported

The Grand Junction Police Department is looking for information about an unknown man who stole a backpack from a locker at Gold’s Gym, 700 Maldonado St., sometime between 3 and 6 p.m. on May 27.

The male subject allegedly took the backpack, which contained a Quicksilver wallet and Oakley glasses with “Wunderlich” engraved on the left lens.

Later that same day, the suspect attempted to use a credit card from the stolen wallet at Game Stop, 2536 Rimrock Ave, according to Crime Stoppers of Mesa County.

Video surveillance captured pictures of a white male, about 25 to 35 years old, 5-foot-10, about 230 pounds with a full beard wearing a gray T-shirt, shorts, sandals and a black baseball cap backwards.

Anyone who knows the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 241-7867.

East Fork Fire in mop-up


The East Fork Fire southeast of Montrose is now about 40 percent contained, the U.S. Forest Service reported on Wednesday.

Activity of the fire, which has burned less than 450 acres, has been light, and fire crews are focusing on mopping up the blaze and putting out hot spots.

Meanwhile, a much smaller 2-acre fire near Ouray was reported completely contained on Tuesday before it got out of hand.

More than 40 firefighters and three helicopters worked through the night Tuesday to stop it from spreading.

The fire was sparked by lightning.


According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

■ Janren Edward, 18, was issued a summons Saturday on suspicion of shoplifting less than $500 of merchandise from Walmart, 2881 North Ave.

■  Ian Steele, 33, was jailed Sunday on suspicion of second-degree assault, false imprisonment, child abuse and violation of a protection order.

■ Jorden Gonzales, 21, was issued a summons Sunday on suspicion of shoplifting less than $100 in merchandise from Walmart, 2881 North Ave.

■  Joseph Tatum, 20, and Patricia Franco, 20, were issued summonses Sunday on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise at Walmart, 2881 North Ave.

■  John McCoy, 59, was issued a summons Sunday on suspicion of urinating in public at North Spruce Street and West Grand Avenue.

■  Someone took an item valued at less than $2,000 from a vehicle Sunday in the 1400 block of Wellington Ave.

■  Someone stole less than $750 in cash Saturday from a business in the 2400 block of Patterson Road.

■  Trudy Sierra, 35, was issued a summons Monday on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia in the 400 block of Fourth Avenue.

■  Someone vandalized a vehicle Monday in the 700 block of Gunnison Avenue, causing more than $1,000 in damage.


According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

■  Charles Gabe Smith, 30, of Grand Junction was jailed Wednesday on suspicion of criminal possession of a forged instrument, theft, forgery and identity theft.


According to the Fruita Police Department:

■  Someone caused about $500 in damage to a drinking fountain June 25 in the Little Salt Wash Park.

■  Someone keyed a car June 25 while in the parking lot of Walgreens, 316 W. Aspen Ave., causing about $500 in damage.

■  Someone attempted to pry a door of a business June 25, but failed to get inside.

■  Officers responded to several homes near the 1000 block of Wallace Street Friday that had been vandalized with eggs, toilet paper and flour.

■  Someone stole a faded teal-colored camper shell valued at about $200 from a home in the 600 block of North Pine Street.

■  Someone stole items from a vehicle Sunday in the 1000 block of Wingate Drive.
