Man jailed on gun charge

A 36-year-old man who allegedly told his ex-wife he wanted to commit “suicide by cop” and told her he had fired a pistol in the air several times Friday night was arrested, an arrest affidavit said.

William Gary Moore was arrested in Clifton after the woman told dispatchers a friend had seen Moore with a handgun at Rocky Mountain Elementary School, the report said.

Deputies found Moore at a Conoco gas station, 437 32 Road, and arrested him at gunpoint. Near the gas station deputies found a loaded handgun with a round chambered and two more in the magazine.

Deputies wrote in the affidavit that Moore struggled while being arrested and had to be restrained en route to the jail. Once there, deputies were “unable to complete a pat down on him but he became uncooperative again,” the report said. He was hit with a Taser during the booking process, the report said.

Moore appeared in court Monday to be advised of his potential charges of possession of a weapon by a previous offender and obstructing government operations. He was ordered held on a $5,000 cash-only bond by Mesa County Judge Bruce Raaum.
