evacuated during fire
A fire that started in some bushes and trees near an apartment complex in the area of 12th Street and Lakeside Drive Wednesday night forced the evacuation of a number of residents, but fire officials say no one was injured.
A woman called to report the fire around 11:30 p.m., and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to find heavy fire in foliage lining most of the block, with fire spreading to nearby apartment buildings. Incoming crews reported seeing 40-foot flames as they arrived, officials said.
Fire crews were able to put the fire out within a half-hour, and residents were able to return to their homes after about 40 minutes, according to the fire department.
