Man who drowned ID’d
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office said that Robert Draper, 45, of Grand Junction was the man who died after an incident Saturday on the Colorado River east of Palisade.
The cause of death is asphyxia from drowning, and the manner of death is accidental, the report said.
Citations, DUI after fight
A drunken brawl after midnight June 30 outside 1642 Walnut Ave. led Grand Junction police to issue multiple citations and arrest a man on suspicion of DUI who sped away from the scene in his truck.
Brandon Hoff, 21, was issued a citation for disorderly house because of “underage drinking, fighting, litter on the premises, and damage to property,” according to an affidavit.
Police were dispatched to the address on report of a fight, and Hoff had an injury, which police said they later learned was a result of that fight.
A responding officer saw Andrew Meil, 21, drive by him in a hurry from the address, accelerating amid groups of people. The road dead-ended though, and when police contacted Meil after he tried to park, he was suspected of driving under the influence and arrested. He later recorded a blood-alcohol level of .167.
