Fraud reported; money sent to Canada
• A man reported to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday that someone contacted a family member and pretended to be a grandson who was requesting that money be wired to Canada.
The man said the family member wired $4,000 to Ontario, Canada, thinking the money was going to a grandson. The same person contacted the family again, but additional money was not sent to Canada, the man told deputies.
The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case as fraud.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
• Michael Ray Balerio, 25, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of vehicular eluding, criminal mischief of $500 to $1,000, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence and driving with a restrained license.
• Theodore James Williams, 47, a homeless Grand Junction man, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of trespassing in the 2800 block of North Avenue.
