Shoplifter followed, caught

A Sam’s Club patron helped police catch a shoplifter who had taken a Samsung security system from the store at 2464 U.S. Highway 6&50.

While in the store’s parking lot, the patron saw a man running to a blue SUV after being confronted by a store employee.

The patron then followed the SUV to a nearby shopping center, where Old Navy and Sportsman’s Warehouse are located, but the occupants of the SUV noticed they were being followed.

A man, later identified as Dustin Ashbaucher, 22, threw items from the vehicle at the patron’s car, ran into the Old Navy store,  exited and then tried to start a fight with the patron, Grand Junction police said.

Police took Ashbaucher to the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of robbery and theft.
