Man dead after wreck
The 31-year-old male driver of an Audi is dead after a crash on the Redlands just before 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Police had not released the man’s name as of Sunday afternoon, according to Sgt. Stan Ancell of the Grand Junction Police Department.
The vehicle appeared to hit a light pole in the area of Greenbelt Drive and Redlands Parkway, and the driver was thrown from the vehicle, Ancell said. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The man was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries, Ancell said.
Vehicle hits fences, house
An 18-year-old driver likely mistook the brake for the gas pedal and drove into the back of a home while attempting to make a U-turn on Sunday afternoon, according to the Grand Junction Police Department. Just before 1 p.m. the vehicle went through two fences and into the home at 1210 Bonito Ave., according to Sgt. Stan Ancell of the Grand Junction Police Department.
“It didn’t do a lot of damage,” Ancell said.
Ancell said the driver was attempting to make a U-turn on the block.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Monique Tafoya-Gonzales, 18, Grand Junction, received a summons on March 1 on suspicion of consuming alcohol as a minor in the 1200 block of Houston Avenue.
■ A 13-year-old caused pain to another person in the 2900 block of Sandra Drive on March 3.
■ Someone unlawfully entered a home and sexually assaulted a person in the northeast section of Grand Junction on Feb. 27.
■ Two girls, both age 16, received summonses on suspicion of shoplifting items valued at less than $50 at Walmart, 2545 Rimrock Ave., on Thursday.
■ Rory Nankervis, 26, received a summons on suspicion of drunken driving at Fifth Street and Sherwood Drive on Friday.
■ Someone unlawfully entered vehicles in the east area of the city on Friday.
■ Amy Mascarenas, 28, Grand Junction, received a summons on suspicion of trespassing at Walmart, 2545 Rimrock Ave.
■ Ronald Fowler, 41, was arrested on two warrants after being contacted by officers underneath the Fifth Street bridge on Friday.
■ Alexanderson Norwood, 19, received a summons on suspicion of soliciting without a business license and solicting inside a business posted with a “No soliciting” sign on Friday.
■ Destry Campbell, 29, was arrested on suspicion of harassing another person in the 2900 block of Patterson Road on Friday. Officers also found him in possession of a schedule III controlled substance.
■ Gordon Bond, 48, was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a deadly weapon and causing injury to another person on Saturday.
■ John Hilton, 50, was arrested Saturday after a traffic stop when officers found him in contact with a person whom be was barred from interacting with.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office did not release any crime reports on Sunday.
