Assault claim unfounded
Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department investigated the claims of a man who told them he was the victim of an armed robbery and assault Tuesday night. But investigators determined the man’s story contained too many inconsistencies to be substantiated.
The man claimed he was attacked around 2 a.m. behind the C&F Food Store near 28½ Road and North Avenue, according to an incident report. He claimed a man wearing all black clothes approached him, pointed a gun at him and demanded valuables. The alleged victim said he handed his cellphone to the man, with cash and an ID, and then got punched in the side of the face by his attacker.
When the man’s story changed, and he showed no visible injuries, and the investigator determined that numerous law enforcement vehicles were in the area at that time investigating an actual incident at the C&F, the case was closed as unfounded.
